Capital T
Salvaged Wooden Joists from Stonewall
60 in. x 75 in.
2025

Capital T is built from unaltered wooden joists salvaged from the Stonewall National Monument Visitors Center during its renovation. The sculpture takes the form of a bold “T,” a letter whose absence was felt when the current administration removed “T” and “Q” from the Stonewall website, erasing transgender and queer identities from official recognition. Constructed just weeks after this act, the work insists on presence and visibility. The weight of the original timbers—weathered, marked, and scarred—anchors the letter as both monument and protest. Capital T embodies resilience, reclaiming erased language through the very bones of a historic site of LGBTQ+ resistance.
